DIPHU, Oct 11: Altogether 17 persons have been hospitalised in Diphu after consuming sandwiches on Tuesday evening. One Ashweng Rengma, a resident of Rengma Colony in Diphu ordered 25 sandwiches on Tuesday for the participants of a worship service at his house.
Rengma said he ordered the sandwiches from Roy Bakery, a popular bakery in Diphu. All those who had the sandwiches were taken ill. The affected have vomited for hours, suffered from stomach-ache, dehydration and loose motion.
Rengma and his son were also admitted in Diphu Civil Hospital early on Wednesday. Among the patients, there are also seven children who were admitted in the hospital, child specialist of Diphu Civil Hospital, Dr A Kathar informed here on Wednesday.
Rengma Naga Students Union (RNSU), Karbi Students Association (KSA) and several other social organisations lodge an FIR against the owner of Roy Bakery at Diphu Police Station on Wednesday afternoon.
However, the bakery owner said that out of total 31 sandwiches, 25 were bought by Rengma and the remaining pieces were sold to other individuals but no complaint has been received so far.
Till filing of report 17 patients were admitted in isolation ward at Diphu Civil Hospital and more are likely to be admitted. Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) EM Ratan Teron and DC Adil Khan visited the hospital to take the stock of the situation.
