Guwahati, March 12: Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi presented degrees to altogether 300 students, 100 for graduate degrees, 190 for post graduate degrees and 10 for M. Phil/Ph.D degrees in the 2nd Convocation of Mahatma Gandhi University, Meghalaya held at Pragjyoti ITA Centre for performing arts in the city on Monday.
While delivering the 2nd convocation address the Governor said, “Graduation day is an important event in one’s life. It is a day when you step out in the open from an intellectually stimulating environment of University into the real world, full of contradictions, astounding possibilities and tough challenges. Today, India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. But our nation of more than a billion people is still far from achieving many of its goals. That is where brilliant minds like you, will make a difference.”
The Governor while hailing the role of Mahatma Gandhi University for its emphasis on quality education and research, he called upon the teaching fraternity of the university to take the university to a different level in churning pool of human resources. The Governor also lauded the University’s foremost goal to reach all the sections of the society in terms of imparting education and its diverse course structure along with strong faculty group supported by well defined infrastructure.
Prof. Mukhi hoped that the university would continue to provide quality education and emerge as a pioneer centre for excellence in North East Region. He congratulated the degree holders for a productive and meaningful career and also urged upon them to contribute to the welfare of the society and the nation.
Director of IIIT-G Prof. Gautam Barua present at the convocation as the guest of honour asked the students to make the full use of their degrees. He said that instead of searching for jobs they should create jobs. He also said that one should go to their native place and indulge in scientific agriculture, food processing etc and contribute to the growth of the economy.
Chancellor of MGU Dr.Rajan Chopra, Former Director of UGC Vikram Sahay, Vice Chancellor of MGU Prof.Mohan Bhattacharya, Registrar Dr. Minakshi Das, President Promoting Body of MGU Dr.Milie Goel including a host of other dignitaries were also present in the convocation.
