DIPHU, March 17: A cheque of Rs. 1 lakh was handed over to Padmashree Rongbong Terang for his treatment at his residence by Howraghat MLA Joyram Engleng in presence of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), CEM Tuliram Ronghang, deputy chairman Ritesh Enghi, EMs Prodeep Rongpi, Amarsing Tisso and MAC Lunsing Teron.
Notably, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced a financial aid of Rs 1 lakh for the treatment of former president of Asam Sahitya Sabha Rongbong Terang, who has been ill for quite some time now from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF), an official release informed in Guwahati on Friday. Sonowal also prayed for early recovery of health of the renowned litterateur, the release added.
On the sidelines of handing over the cheque, CEM Ronghang said a library will be constructed by KAAC at the residence of Padmashree Terang for preserving of books, magazines and mementos as there is no room for keeping them in his house.
Terang is the first and only Padmashree awardee from the Karbi community. He was the president of Asam Sahitya Sabha from 2009-2012. He was also founder secretary of Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA) – literary body of the Karbi tribe.
