GUWAHATI, Dec 8: HDFC Bank’s Nagaon branch has been adjudged as the Best Performing Branch in Microfinance (Joint Liability Group or JLG financing) in the state among private sector banks by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). At a felicitation ceremony organized by NABARD on Wednesday, Ajanta Neog, finance minister, Government of Assam, presented the award to Bhagaban Baruah, relationship manager – Sustainable Livelihood Initiative (SLI), HDFC Bank in the presence of other senior bank officials, including Bani Kanta Borah, Regional Business Head – North East, HDFC Bank.
Notably, the bank’s Sustainable Livelihood Initiative or SLI is aimed at the financial and social empowerment of individuals through financial inclusion, financial literacy, and skill-building. HDFC Bank provides its SLI customers market linkage, credit support, training, and capacity, and has covered 4.61 lakh households in Assam. Nationally, the bank has reached out to over 10.3 million households, thereby transforming the lives of more than 41 million people.
