GoM formed for revival of telecom sector, BSNL 4G service in 18 cities soon
GUWAHATI, Oct 11: In the aftermath of the media report that the Union government will down the shutters of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) due to heavy losses, BSNL authorities here claimed that there is no such plan for closure of the two telecom companies.
“The Union government has no plan to close down BSNL and MTNL. Persons with vested interests are engaged in spreading false information about BSNL and MTNL” BSNL Assam circle chief general manager Sandeep Govil told reporters here Friday.
“The media reports claiming the closure of BSNL and MTNL are fake and are nothing more than rumours,” Govil claimed.
“Such misinformation leads to misconception and confusion among the subscribers,” he said and urged the people to not to believe in such reports.
The CGM also informed that BSNL 4G services will be launched soon in 18 more cities of the country by the end of October. BSNL has also introduced attractive offers for customers for the festive season Rs 1,699 plan with unlimited calls on any network, 100 SMS per day with 2 GB data per day for 455 days.
“BSNL will always be with our esteemed customers and continue to serve the nation especially during difficult time of natural calamities better in future too at affordable rates throughout India even in remote places,” said Sandeep Govil, chief general manager, BSNL Assam circle.
Govil further said that the Union government has formed a group of ministers (GoM) to look after the revival of BSNL and MTNL.
Agreeing to the fact that BSNL is going through a financial crunch, Govil clarified that there is plan under active consideration for revival of BSNL by giving suitable package in terms of VRS/4G spectrum and allowing monetization of assets available with BSNL.
He also informed that the GoM will soon announce a revival package for reviving the PSU. Union minister of communication, Ravi Shankar Prasad, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman are also members of the GoM.
BSNL has also signed an agreement with UIDAI for setting up of Aadhaar Seva Kendras in Assam. UIDAI designates BSNL customer service centres as Aadhaar Seva Kenra for Aadhaar enrolment services on Pan India basis.
BSNL Assam has commenced Aadhaar enrolment services in 36 customer service centres.
The major centres are operating in Guwahati, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Nalbari, Tinsukia, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Haflong, Hailakandi, Karimganj, Tezpur, Mangaldoi, Udalguri. These centre will be equipped with the facilities of new Aadhaar enrolment and Aadhaar card modification, Govil also said.
