GUWAHATI, Jan 23: Under the aegis of State Innovation and Transformation Aayog (SITA), Assam a meeting on tea gardens under Assam Tea Corporation (ATC) with industry and commerce department, government of Assam was held on January 22 at the conference hall of Gopinath Bordoloi Bhavan, Assam Legislative Assembly under the chairmanship of Dipok Kumar Barthakur, vice-chairman, SITA.
The meeting was held to review the present status of ATC gardens and attended by the advisors Dr Mridul Hazarika, Dr KM Bujarbaruah, Kashi Nath Hazarika and Rani Katharpi, secretary, industry and commerce and MD ATC; Dr N Barpujari, consultant ATC as well as by representatives of 15 tea gardens of ATC.
Dr Mridul Hazarika, Advisor SITA, gave the introductory speech about SITA and issues related to the tea gardens with special emphasis on ATC Tea Gardens. He spoke on the challenges and needs of innovative approaches to improve the productivity and profitability of the tea industry at large and ATC in particular. Rani Katharpi explained the background of ATC and the present scenario of the tea gardens. Later Dr KM Bujarbaruah and Kashi Nath Hazarika expressed their views on the need for identifying the specific issues and challenges to enhance revenue and streamline operational systems to achieve the industry benchmarks for consolidating growth potential of the corporation.
