GUWAHATI, Oct 5: Suryagold Cement launched ‘Deuka’ a program on women menstrual hygiene, on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti with the theme “Swachhata Hi Swaasth He” targeting adolescent girls of Tamulikuchi Village in Kamrup District, recently. The entire program was conducted inside the closed doors of Tamulikuchi ME School in the presence of Paramedical staff, Aasha Karmis and various other female senior doctors.
The doctors and Aasha Karmis tried to explain how inadequate menstrual protection make adolescent girls miss schools for around fifty days a year. The doctors also spoke at large about the incidents of Reproductive Tract Infection (RTI), which is most common among adolescent women.
The program was inaugurated by the president of Suryagold Cement Sunil Kumar Agarwal and Prasanta Jaganath –BEEO (Block elementary Education officer).
Commenting on the initiative, Agarwal stated, “We are very much concerned about the health of our students whether it is male or female as both are vital for a healthy society and for the wellbeing of the nation. Menstrual hygiene is one of the most crucial concept of women’s health and we are glad that we have aimed to spread awareness about it among the adolescent in our own simple way.” Free sanitary pads and bathing soap were also distributed as a token of gesture among the students.
