GUWAHATI, July 31: Indian Chamber of Commerce in association with BCPL (Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited) organized a Webinar on Revival of Logistics and Supply Chain – Focus: North East India on Friday. While delivering the welcome address, MK Saharia, Chairman – NER of ICC extended his gratitude to all the delegates for joining the meeting via this webinar.
Later, IK Pandey Director-General (RD) and SS, Ministry for Road Transport and Highways, Government of India gave his insight on various ongoing development of Road connectivity in Northeast India which will be a huge opportunity to connect the Southeast Asian countries. The MoRTH is developing National Highways under special the SRDP-Special Area Development Program of Northeast with the total length of 13500 Kms, out of which, 5100 kms has already been completed.
Rajat Sachar, Sr Economic Advisor from the Ministry of Shipping Govt of India shared his insight by informing that the recent development of connecting the Northeastern states of India by sea-ports of Bangladesh to be of historical importance.
On July 16, Union shipping minister Mansukh Mandaviya, flagged off the first trial movement of container ships from Kolkata Port to Agartala and Assam via Chittagong port in Bangladesh.
On the other hand, Pabitra Khaund, ACS, Secretary of Transport Department, Government of Assam appreciated the webinar organized by ICC. He reiterated, “The main challenge is to engage the man power with the proper health guidelines and mobilizing the huge number of labourers to their respective areas, which is being taken care of by the Transport Department, Government of Assam.” PR Kapse, Chief Manager – Sourcing & Logistics of BCPL gave a presentation on various potentials like Logistics share in NE, Supply Chain Management and the present hurdle faced by the logistics department in NE. Binay Chirania, Regional Manager – NER of Central Warehousing Corporation during his speech emphasized on the preparedness by CWC at the current situation of Pandemic & Flood.
