SHILLONG, March 3: Congress president Rahul Gandhi has deputed three party key strategists, Ahmed Patel, Kamal Nath to Meghalaya to facilitate formation of a Congress-led government in Meghalaya.
“The Congress will stake its claim to form the next government in Meghalaya,” senior party leader Kamal Nath said on Saturday expressing confidence that it would succeed in its mission.
On the other hand, NPP leader Conrad Sangma said that the party has appreciated the mandate and “we will talk to BJP and other regional parties on formation of the government.”
“Well, we will make a claim to the Governor and ask him to call us to form the government,” Nath, who has been despatched in Shillong along with senior leaders Ahmed Patel and Mukul Wasnik to try and form the government in Meghalaya which has returned a hung verdict.
He said Congress was in touch with all the regional parties in Meghalaya in its efforts to form the government. He accused the BJP of using money power to cause as much disturbance as possible and to keep the Congress out of power.
Meanwhile, chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma is on his way to Shillong to meet senior leaders.
On the other hand, BJP to have deputed Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to Meghalaya and Ram Madhav to Nagaland to play roles in the post-poll scenario in these states.
