GUWAHATI, May 17: Rongali Bihu was celebrated at Madhusudan Manch in Kolkata on Tuesday with an annual cultural programme ‘Kolkata Rongali Bihu 2018’ organised by Kolkata Assamese Cultural Association.

The main programme inside the auditorium started with Bihu Husori performed by the male members of the association. It is an indispensible part of the Rongali Bihu, sung on the very first day of Bihu festival. Young men under the guidance of the elders go from house to house singing Husori.

The association felicitated renowned folk musician and singer Padmashri Purna Das Baul. Purna Das Baul was overwhelmed to see the colourful performance by the members and said, “Assam is very close to my heart. Though I have travelled more than 175 countries for performance but the respect and love from Assamese people and their culture has attracted me always and this attraction had also brought him to the Rongali Bihu festival”.

Special performance was the tribute dance for a very important member of the Association, Late Monidipa Sarkar Mukherjee, founder of Padmini Dance Academy and a super talented dancer of the association. There were various dance programmes accompanied with the live performance by renowned Assamese singer Simanta Sekhar at the programme.
