PASIGHAT, May 17: Arunachal Police following a special drive against illegal intruders caught as many as 135 persons from capital district- Papum Pare in the last one week and deported from the state through Banderdewa check gate on Wednesday.
Official sources said that the drive was carried out by the capital district administration led by Capital Complex deputy commissioner, Prince Dhawan. Sources said that the state has so far deported 283 intruders, who entered the state without valid Inner Line Permit (ILP) so far and the drive would be continued for some months.
According to report, the police during the ILP checking drive on Wednesday morning also caught two persons with two sacks of Marijuana (ganja) weighing approximately 70kg at Itanagar. The narcotics were carried in maruti car, which was also seized by the police.
A case has been registered at Itanagar police station U/S 20(b) (ii) C Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 against the duo and investigation is on, informed sub-divisional police officer, K Sikom in Itanagar on Wednesday.
Earlier too, Itanagar police carried out intensive checking against violators, caught and deported them beyond the inner line jurisdiction. The Capital Complex DC further directed the superintendent of police to intensify the drive at all the check gates of Capital Complex.
Besides it, drive against entry without ILP is being conducted by the administration and police in different Arunachal districts. Longding district bordering to Tinsukia district in Upper Assam alone has recorded 101 deportations and West Kameng in Lower Arunachal has witnessed 47 illegal entries among the deported persons.
