SHILLONG, Sept 16: People from Muslim community residing in Shillong today held a protest march against the atrocities and persecution of Rohingya muslims even as they opposed the Centre’s decision to deport the Rohingyas to Myanmar.
Md. Zaki, a participant of the protest rally, said, “The Central Government must revoke its decision to deport the Rohingya refugees numbering around 40,000 because they would face prosecution in Myanmar”.
“We have taken out this protest march against this atrocities faced by Rohingyas in Myanmar,” he added.
An estimated 400,000 ethnic Rohingya Muslims have fled the strife-torn Rakhine State in Myanmar, mainly to Bangladesh, after 2012.
