JFA appeals to hoist National flag on I-Day

Guwahati, Aug 14: Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) appealed to all patriotic nationals to hoist the National flag on the occasion of 71st Independence Day with an aim to honour the known and unknown martyrs of freedom movement against the British colonial forces.

In a statement here on Monday, JFA president Rupam Barua and general secretary Nava Thakuria urged all media organisations and institutions of the state to come forward to pay homage to the martyrs with any trepidation.

Defying the diktat of separatist militants, the media fraternity of the city will salute the Nation tricolour at Guwahati Press Club premises at 11 am on Tuesday to pay respects to the martyrs, because of whose immense sacrifices India is a sovereign nation today. The participants, including other patriotic citizens will also take out a rally after the flag hoisting ceremony.
