Begusarai (Bihar), Feb 3 (PTI): Police in Begusarai on Saturday claimed to have arrested the two persons who had opened fire at the residence of a sitting RJD MLA on Friday night, leaving one person injured.

The motorcycle-borne assailants had fired three bullets at the residence of Upendra Paswan, the MLA from Bakhri, in Kumharso village under Gadhpura police station area.

While the legislator had escaped unhurt, one Naval Kishore who was seated beside Paswan, sustained injuries in the attack.        Superintendent of Police Aditya Kumar said the accused, Suraj Kumar and Raju Singh, were arrested and the motorcycle used in Friday’s attack was recovered from their possession along with two country made pistols, four live cartridges and a mobile phone.

During interrogation, Suraj revealed that he worked at a parking lot near a railway station and had been nursing a grouse against Paswan ever since the latter had asked his employer to sack him, the SP said.         The SP said that Suraj had brawled with owners of some shops in the vicinity of the railway station following which an FIR was lodged against him.

Later, the shopkeepers had approached the MLA with a complaint against Suraj who has earlier been named in criminal cases in his native district of Samastipur, the SP said.

Following Paswan’s demand, Suraj’s employer had agreed to sack him, the SP said.

The SP also said that before attacking the MLA’s house, the duo had fired some gunshots, to strike terror, at a petrol pump near the village in which another person named Sanjiv Mahato was injured.        Meanwhile, a delegation of the RJD led by its state unit president Ramchandra Purve on Saturday met Bihar DGP P K Thakur in Patna and submitted a memorandum alleging that the party’s leaders were being “attacked at the behest of our detractors who are wary of the public support we enjoy”.

A demand for “a bullet-proof car, along with escort vehicles and adequate deployment of security personnel” was also made in the memorandum for party leader Tejashwi Yadav’s state-wide “Nyay yatra” which is scheduled to begin on February 09 and continue till February 22.
