DIPHU, Dec 8: The Simeon Rongphar faction of Karbi Students Association (KSA) condemned the firing and killing of 15 civilians by Assam Rifles at Oting village in Mon district of Nagaland on December 4. KSA called the incident ‘against humanity’ and those responsible for such an inhuman act should be brought to justice.
Condemning the incident the KSA in its statement said the continued ugly and monstrous act carried out by the ubiquitous security forces in the entire AFSPA affected North-Eastern states including Karbi Anglong is not a new thing but a repeat of the past to suppress the legitimate political aspirations of the peace loving citizens of North-East India. Ever since the draconian law of AFSPA was imposed in NE states a number of instances of atrocities, rape of women and unabated killing spree of innocent civilians at the hands of Indian security forces have been taking place in the name of fighting insurgency.
KSA pointed out that in 2016 six Karbi tribesmen were gunned down by Indian security forces in Karbi Anglong, and out of the six, three turned out to be innocent villagers who have been camping in a hut to look over their sesame crop.
KSA said the tragic incident was forgotten and vanished into thin air. No investigation was ordered by the government.
KSA urged that ‘neutral groups’, National Human Rights Commission looked into it so that swift action against the guilty is taken and justice to the victims and their bereaved families be delivered.
