HAFLONG, Sept 14: At least 11 anti-social elements have been arrested for allegedly threatening two senior Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leaders of Dima hasao district, superintendent of police Prashanta Saikia told reporters here on Friday.
“Nine of them have been rounded up from Nablaidisa and Khepre area under Maibang Police Station,” he said.
They have been identified as: Dilon Kemprai, Soljit Thaosen, Biswanath Langthasa, Bison Bathari, Sushen Porbosa, Arjit Langthasa, Dipon Nath Johori, Sobjit Kemprai and Kanchan Naiding.
The SP said all of them were involved in threatening of AGP leader Firaj Langthasa on the night of August 19.
Notably, on August 21, the AGP leader lodged an FIR with Maibang police station alleging that a group of five miscreants had searched for him in his residence at Nablaidisa Village. All of them were in army fatigue and were armed with AK 47 assault rifles.
On August 23, another AGP leader and former chief executive member (CEM) of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), Debajit Thaosen lodged FIR with Maibang police station stating that a group of miscreants had entered his house at Nobdi Langting and took away a licensed gun from his residence.
The SP also said that the group had also snatched away arms from different persons at Khepre, Nabdi Langting and Nablaidisa areas of the hill district.
“On the basis of four different FIRs, we started search operation. The police team led by Maibang SDPO Mayanka Kumar caught 10 criminals and finally on Thursday one more criminal was caught,” Saikia further said.
Police also recovered 3 SBBL guns, one handmade gun, 6 rounds of 12 bore cartridges and a pair of army fatigue recovered from the arrested criminals.
They have no connection with any terrorist group, Saikia said.
