Kokrajhar, Aug 20: “The 12B (twelve B) status issue is not a big issue while running a University, said Dr Kiran Hazarika, member of Commission of University Grants Commission (UGC), while speaking at the 10-day Faculty Development Programme which began at Bodoland Univerity complex in Kokrajhar district on Monday.
Over 40-participants from different colleges from lower Assam districts participated in the programme which was organised by Department of Commerce, Bodoland University in association with IIT Guwahati. BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary, who is in-charge of education department graced as chief guest on the occasion.
It is to be mentioned that the Bodoland University, a premier educational institute in BTAD region, has not been accorded 12B (twelve B) status due to scarcity of professors as well some are pending technical reasons. The university was set up under the spirits of BTC accord which was signed in 2003 to paving the way higher educational studies in the region. Due to non-availability of 12B status in Bodoland University, more than 25 colleges have been re-clubbed with Gauhati University few months back and so far nearly 30 colleges are affiliated under Bodoland University.
Speaking during the programme, Dr Hazarika informed that the government college as well deficit colleges should not be sceptical about the Bodoland University’s non-availability of 12B(twelve B) status because 12B status is not a big issue, but a process to run under UGC. He said that the UGC has been initiating to provide 12 B status to the Bodoland University and necessary process has been initiated to grant the status.
He said that Bodoland University has been deprived of 60% teachers’ scarcity and so it is facing hardship to get 12B status. He suggested the colleges left out from university must be stopped and to build a healthy educational environment in the region. All necessary issue and problems would be solved whenever it gets 12B status in the university.
“As of now, the university has no requisite numbers of teachers to get 12B status as per norms in the UGC and so issue is pending”, he said.
He has lauded the organisers for organising such programmes for giving educational training on computer and its aspects. He said that the programmes will be helping teaching community to learn computer and its related sources in the teaching point of view.
