DIPHU, Sept 9: The police have arrested two activists of United People’s Liberation Army (UPLA) from Desoi Terang village, Jaipong under Dokmoka police station in Karbi Anglong district in the wee hours on Sunday.

They have been identified as Raja Hanse (20) and Bison Terang (19). A .22 pistol, 5 demand notes and a mobile handset were recovered from them.

However, the UPLA has denied the arrest of two of its activists describing it as a false propaganda of the police and the security forces.

IN a press release here on Sunday, the armed organisation said the two arrest youth are not even members of the outfit. “The two arrested persons were neither and never members of UPLA as we does not give rise to such activities during the ceasefire process with the state and Central government. The arrested persons who identified themselves as UPLA activists are anti-social elements trying to malign image of our organisation.”

“We the UPLA would like to request all the print, electronic and social media to kindly verify properly before broadcasting on electronic and social media. We the UPLA strongly warn to impose strict action to those involved in trying to distort the ceasefire process between the UPLA, the centre and the state governments,” the release said.
