GOLAGHAT, Dec 18: Two youth hailing from Gopur bordering Arunachal Pradesh were arrested by police in Golaghat on their way to join the banned United Liberation front of Asom- Independent (ULFA-I), police said.
According to the report, on the basis of specific information a joint team of police and CRPF led by additional superintendent of police Dhruba Bora conducted a raid at a night service bus at Rangajan Tinali here in the wee hours of Tuesday. The bus was on its way to Mon Town of Nagaland.
The police team caught two students from the bus who were coming from Guwahati and they were supposed to reach Mon Town, from where they were to be taken to a training camp of the banned outfit bordering Myanmar.
One of the youth has been identified as is Baniya, a Class X student while the other has been identified as Nabo Handique, a third semester student.
During interrogation, both the youth confessed that they wanted to join the ULFA-I following depression due to their poverty and unemployment.
Notably, a leader of All Assam Students Union (AASU)- Pankaj Pratim Dutta, the vice president of Dergaon Regional Students Union (DRSU) has joined the outfit on October 24, last. The joining of youngsters in the militant outfit has left the police in a terrible spot.
