GUWAHATI, Oct 12: The 20th North East Book Fair, organised by All Assam Publishers and Book Sellers Association, will begin at Assam Engineering Institute (AEI) field at Chandmari here from November 9. Noted Assamese litterateur from Arunachal Pradesh, Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi will inaugurate fair at 3 pm.
Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, All Assam Student Union (AASU) chief adviser Dr Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya, Federation of Publishers and Book Sellers of India (FoPBSI) president SC Sethi, vice president Manas Saikia will also attend in the inaugural function.
This year the NEBF is dedicated to litterateurs Syed Abdul Malik, Bhabananda Dutta and Prafulla Dutta Goswami, AAPBSA president Ajit Kumar Barman and general secretary Dhiraj Goswami told reporters here Friday.
The main stage of the fair is dedicated to social activist Khanindra Chandra Das. The auditorium is dedicated to director Munin Baruah, actor Biju Phukan and Badal Das. The conference hall of the fair is named as Chetana Sabhaaghar on the occasion of 100 years celebration of the magazine, they said.
The lai khuta of the fair will be installed at the AEI field on November 1.
Three special programmes – Suchibrata Ray Choudhury Memorial Women Meet, Dr Prafulla Chandra Kataky Memorial Citizens Meet and Children’s Day will also be organised as a part of the fair, they said.
On the occasion of the fair, 12 book sellers and publishers and 14 artists will be felicitated. A special programme of NEBF brand ambassador Zubeen Garg will also be organised, they added.
