DIPHU, Oct 9: The 27th Havar Karbi Riso Nimso Rong Aje (Zonal Karbi Youth Festival) organised by Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) was celebrated in 26 KCS Zones in Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong districts. It is part of preparation for the Karbi Youth Festival (KYF) organised annually at Karbi Cultural Centre in Taralangso here in February each year.
Among the 26 KCS Zones celebrating the Zonal KYF is Singhason KCS Zones, held at Borjan playground from October 6 which concluded on Wednesday with prize distribution ceremony cum cultural night.
During the three-day cultural extravaganza traditional and modern competitions were conducted. Singhason KCS Zonal president Jiten Ronghang said there were 18 events in both traditional and modern competition. Folk dance, songs and games and sports and modern songs and dance in both individual and group competitions were taken up, Ronghang said.
Altogether 16 KCS units under Singhason KCS Zone have participated in the festival, Ronghang informed.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by HAD minister, Sum Ronghang as chief guest who called upon the Karbis to come forward in promoting the culture and language of the community.
“The first KYF was held in 1974 and KCS was formed three years later i.e. in 1977 under the initiative of Roy Enghi, former chairman of erstwhile Karbi Anglong District Council. It is high time that we take importance in promoting our culture by offering ourselves to work for it,” the minister said.
EM for agriculture, Amarsing Tisso assured KCS units of Singhason KCS Zone to provide one pair of Karbi traditional drum and set of Karbi traditional costumes for boys and girls from next Zonal KYF.
KCS general secretary, Bidyasing Rongpi informed that Zonal KYF was organised in 26 KCS Zones. Out of this there is one in Biswanath Chariali and Umrongso in Dima Hasao.
First best team was bagged by Borjan KCS unit, second by Sumsi KCS unit and third by Ove Chingthur KCS unit. Prizes and certificates were given away to the winning teams in KCS units.
Singhason KCS Zone president Jiten Ronghang, secretary Mohindro Engti, former MLA Bidyasing Engleng, MACs Dorsing Ronghang and Ramsing Timung; former KAAC, chairman Daniel Teron, secretary Nirola Phangchopi, former KCS general secretary Sanjay Killing; Lokhimon Sangha president Boloram Phangcho and KCS central observer Lina Hansepi also attended the ceremony.
