HAFLONG, Jan 25: Three persons were killed and 32 others were injured when the police indiscriminately fired at the members of social organisations who were trying to block a train at Maibong railway station in Dima Hasao district on Friday afternoon.
The social organisations led by dimasa apex body, Jadikhe Nisho Hosom (JNH) has called for a 12-hour Dima Hasao bandh on Thursday to register their protest against the move of the Union government to include Dima Hasao in the map of Greater Nagalim of NSCN(I-M). They also sought public apology from RSS ideologue Jagadamba Mall over his statement on draft Framework Agreement.
‘A large number of protestors gathered at Maibong railway station to block train coming from Badarpur to Guwahati through the newly-constructed Lumding-Silchar BG Exapansion Line as part of their 12-hour bandh. The protestors gathered at the railway track and created a chaotic situation. Dima Hasao deputy commissioner Devajyoti Hazarika rushed to the spot along with superintendent of police Ankur Jain to bring the situation under control. But the agitated protestors damaged the vehicles of DC and SP and refused to withdraw the railway blockade.
The deputy commissioner then ordered firing to disperse the protestors from the railway station. Three persons, including a student were killed while 32 others were injured. The injured have been shifted to the hospital. The social organisations condemned the firing on unarmed people and termed it as a gross violation of Human Rights.
