DHUBRI, Oct 4: Three members of a family were electrocuted in Golakganj town of Dhrbri district on Friday. The incident occurred when Yusuf Ali was electrocuted after stepping on an electric wire while working on a field. After spotting Ali quivering due to the shock, his wife and her father rushed to rescue him following which both of them were electrocuted as well.
Ali died on the spot while his wife and her father were rushed to Dhubri hospital but were declared brought dead.
Reportedly, the outraged locals alleged that due to the hospital authority’s negligence the victims lost their lives. They staged a protest by blocking the NH31 but the situation was later neutralised by the police.
Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed grief over the loss of life in the tragic incident of electrocution at Golakganj.
Following the chief minister’s direction, state government had issued instruction to the district magistrate for submitting report at the earliest after conducting inquiry into the incident. The Dhubri district administration had released ex gratia amount of Rs 2.5 lakh to the next of kin of each of the deceased following the Chief Minister’s direction.
The chief minister had also instructed the Tinsukia deputy commissioner to pay Rs 2 lakh each to the families of those who lost their lives in the incident of speeding vehicle hitting pedestrians at Rangagora in the district.
In view of the increasing incidents of the road mishaps in the state of late, Sonowal had issued instruction to the deputy commissioners of all districts to constitute task forces comprising police, magistrate, transport and excise department officials so that strict action could be taken against violators of traffic rules to prevent road accidents.
