GUWAHATI, July 12: Altogether nine girls were rescued and a woman trafficker was arrested by a team of Railway Protection Force (RPC) from a running train.
According to NF Railway sources, a team of RPF comprising inspector Ashok Das, head constable JS Kalita, constable Bhaskar Malakar, head constable Sachindra Bharali and constable Ahjaj Khan conducted a search on train No. 15648 DN Guwahati – LTT Express on the basis of specific information.
The team rescued four girls from coach No S-9 who were being taken to Mumbai on the pretext of employment in a fish factory. Later, three more girls were rescued from coach No S-6 along with a woman trafficker, sources said.
All of them were detrained at Barpeta Road Railway Station and brought back to Rangiya for further investigation. The woman trafficker has been identified as Kalpana Barman (40) hailing from Baska district. During interrogation, she revealed that she had planned to take all the girls to Mumbai on commission basis.
During the year, the RPF has rescued 20 children from the clutches of traffickers.
