In a message, the governor hoped that the occasion would guide all towards Gandhiji’s path of truth, non-violence and cleanliness. He also hoped that the occasion would stir up people’s conscience towards universal peace, global unity, true compassion and Swachhta (cleanliness).

In his message, the Governor said that Mahatma Gandhi dedicated his life towards freedom of the country and strengthening of communal harmony. The Governor further said that in pursuance of Gandhi’s ideas, the Centre has launched ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ to create a ‘clean India’.  He appealed to the people to actively involve themselves in cleanliness drive.

In a separate message, Khandu said, “Gandhiji’s teachings on non-violence will always be relevant. Violence of any form and hatred of any degree are best avoided for a peaceful and progressive society”.

Paying rich tributes to the Mahatma, Khandu urged all, especially leaders to take a cue from the great soul, who practised what he preached.

Khandu also appealed to the citizens to join hands with the nation in implementing Swacch Bharat Mission, a cleanliness movement started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi which, according to him, has changed the face of the nation.
