Acharya reminds college principals on UGC guidelines to adopt villages

Dimapur, Sept 15: Nagaland governor P B Acharya on Saturday reminded the college principals, the state higher education department and the Nagaland University that the UGC had set guidelines for colleges to adopt villages for exchange of knowledge and for the overall socio-economic betterment of the village communities.

Interacting with officials from the higher education department, members of Nagaland College Principals Association and Nagaland University representatives at Raj Bhavan in Kohima, the governor said the students should visit these adopted villages and highlight the community on various issues like health, hygiene and the environment. He also stated that the targeted beneficiaries of the government schemes and programmes should be made by the students, a Raj Bhavan release said.

He also called upon the educational institutions to play their role in strengthening the society.

Acharya further informed that a seminar on thoughts and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi by eminent resource persons will be organised at Raj Bhavan in Kohima on October 2 to mark the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation.

He said Raj Bhavans across the country will be organising programmes and seminars to mark the occasion.

The governor further instructed the higher education department to conduct quiz competitions related to Mahatma Gandhi in all the districts of Nagaland. The winners of the competition will be felicitated on at Raj Bhavan on October 2, he added.

Acharya said the programme will be attended by about 250 selected college students from Kohima and Dimapur.
