DALGAON, Dec 13: The Kharupetia College stagnated due to students protest on Monday. Large number of students, local organisation, Union Body and deprived students staged a sit-in protest in front of Kharupetia College gate demanding admission in BA & B.Com 1st semester. As per information, about 2000 students applied for admission and only 1000 students were admitted in the college. The admission deprived students, union body along with local organisations including AAMSU, ASSP and SJMA among others irked over depriving and playing with the students’ lives. GS of Kharupetia College Union Body said that they have approached the DC and Gauhati University but no fruitful steps have been taken as of now. “We have no other ways to gain higher education as we belong to poor family and cannot afford admission in private institutions. We have locked up the door of the college gate and will continue protest until and unless the authority ensures admission,” said one the students.
Meanwhile, Mahbubul Alam, president of Darrang AAMSU raised concern over the negligence of Education minister towards the region. “We met him and provided memorandum demanding to sort out the admission issue. Surprisingly, Education minister Ranoj Pegu, legislator of Dalgaon and Mangaldai seemed to be a mute spectator regarding the serious issue,” he alleged. Notably, Kharupetia College is the only institution in the entire Dalgaon region which is located in Mangaldai Constituency.
