HAFLONG, July 10: Senior leaders of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Tuesday discussed the party strategy for the upcoming elections to North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NAHAC) in a day-long convention of Dima Hasao District AGP held at Cultural Institute Hall here.
The meeting was attended by former chief minister and founder present of AGP, Prafulla Kumar Mahanta. In his address, Mahanta urged the people of Dima Hasao to choose the AGP as the right party for peace and development of the hill district.
“It was the AGP-led four-party alliance government, when the power of 30 government departments were handed over to the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC). It is right time to give mandate to AGP once again for the all round develop the Dima Hasao district,” Mahanta said.
The AGP president and the state agriculture minister Atul Bora, AGP working president and state water resources minister Keshab Mahanta, food and civil supplies minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury were also present.
The meeting was also attended by former chief executive member (CEM) of North cachar hills autonomous council (NCHAC), Debojit Thaosen, former CEM and MAC Prakanta Warisa, MACs Laltalngsanga Hmar and Laljoshua Biate.
Speaking on the occasion, AGP working president Kesab Mahanta claimed that only AGP can resolve all issues of this hill district. He said the AGP will win with larger mandate in the upcoming election to the council.
In his address, Phani Bhushan Choudhury said that it is matter pride that AGP has 26,000 members in Dima Hasao which indicates that the party workers are working hard to win the next elections in all 28 MAC seats.
The AGP president Atul Bora, while speaking on the occasion, said it is historic moment for AGP as more than 2000 workers took part from the different parts of the district to show the strength of the party. “Only AGP can fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the people of Dima Hasao. The people have understood that national parties are not working in the interest of region,” he added.
