DHUBRI, Aug 5: Dhubri MP and Jamiyat Ulema president Badruddin Ajmal on Sunday lambasted BJP MLA Shiladitya Dev over his recent remarks in which Dev said that in 2026 Assembly election, Badruddin Ajmal would become the chief minister with support of minority votes.
Ajmal was addressing an awareness meeting organised by the Jamiat Ulema at Jhagrapar on outskirts of Dhubri town on Sunday.
Terming Dev as an imported fish, Ajmal, who is also the president of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) said, “Shiladitya Dev always tries to create conflict between the Hindu and Muslim communities with a motive to shift Hindu votes towards the BJP in the upcoming general elections 2019.”
Ajmal also alleged that despite several petitions made by his organisations, the Assam government has failed to arrest Dev though he continued to make inflammatory statements against a particular community “only because he belongs to the ruling party”.
Reacting to West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s remark on the NRC, Ajmal said that he has a good relationship with Mamata but despite that he cannot support her in the NRC issue as the entire process of updating has been going on in a peaceful manner and under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
Apart him, three MLAs of the AIUDF including Najrul Hoque of Dhubri, Mizanur Rahman of Gauripur and Hafiz Basir Ahmed Kasmi of Bilasipara West respectively of Dhubri district along with other Jamiat leaders were present at the meeting.
