MARGHERITA, Nov 20: Activists of Asom Jatiyotabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad Margherita Regional Committee and its sister organisation Jatiyo Mahila Parishad on Wednesday took out a torch light rally from Central Margherita to North Margherita Rangamancha in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and construction of the Subansiri dam.
More than 500 activists of AJYCP and Jatiyo Mahila Parishad were present and shouted various slogans against the BJP-led Government both at the Centre and State. AJYCP Tinsukia District Committee general secretary Kanchan Bora took a dig at chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and questioned his silence over CAB and the construction of big dam by NHPC.
“Before the 2014 general elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that illegal immigrants in Assam will have to go Bangladesh after May 16 but now he is doing u-turn and forcefully implementing the draconian law CAB, 2016, which will instead provide citizenship to immigrants,” Bora said.
“AJYCP shall not accept the Bill at any cost and if needed will sacrifice blood to stop the anti-Assam law from getting passed in the Parliament,” he added.
AJYCP Tinsukia district committee advisor Sanjib Ulup said that big dam is the biggest curse for the people of Assam which, if completed, will wash away large part of Assam’s land.
