Probe panel seeks representations
GUWAHATI, March 9: The one-man inquiry committee looking into alleged anomalies into appointment in panchayat and rural development (P&RD) department headed by additional chief secretary Jishnu Barua has called for written representations from all the individuals and organisations before the committee within March 23.
The committee was formed on Friday to probe into the alleged anomalies reported in a section of media.
In the notice issued by Barua, it was stated that representations may be sent by post or e-mail within the date fixed or can submit at the room no 2 of the Circuit House here.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has already submitted a report on the anomalies in the written interview for the vacant posts in the department, which was held in May 2018.
The report mentioned severe anomalies in 18 examination centres of nine districts, where the written examination was conducted. Around 28 candidates were also expelled for using unfair means during the examination.
Akhil attacks government
Meanwhile, firebrand peasant leader Akhil Gogoi has lambasted the Sarbananda Sonowal-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Assam and termed the recruitment process in the Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) Department as one of the “biggest scams” in the history of Assam.
Addressing newsmen here, Gogoi said, “The Sonowal government is the flagbearer of corruption and today the investigation report of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has completely proved it. According to the CID report, a number of irregularities were detected in the recruitment process. Without the verification of documents, practical marks were provided and overnight, the names of the selected candidates were published on the P&RD website.”
He added, “No police verification was conducted for the selected 945 candidates who were asked to join the department immediately. More than one person was selected from a single family. The same cash-for-job of Assam Public Service Commission process was used in P&RD department.”
Gogoi further accused State Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and State Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley for the “biggest scam” and alleged that their relatives were appointed in the P&RD Department with the ministers’ recommendation.
It may be mentioned that the CID submitted the investigation report on the anomalies in the recruitment examination for the vacant posts in the P&RD Department, which was held in May 2018 across the State. According to the CID report, there were numerous irregularities in 18 examination centres of nine districts and also, around 28 candidates were expelled for using unfair means during the examination.
