Guwahati, Aug 31: The Gauhati High Court on Thursday granted bail to 10 accused persons including three Assam Civil Service (ACS) officials, who were arrested in connection with the cash-for-job scam of Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).

Those who were granted bail are: former APSC members Basanta Doley, Samedur Rahman, employee Pabitra Koiborta, Musharaf Hussain, ACS officers Bhaskarjyoti Dev Sharma, Bhaskar Dutta and Amit Sharma and engineer Nabakanta Patir.

A team of Dibrugarh Police arrested all 10 persons in connection with the scam. Earlier, the Supreme court has granted bail to former APSC chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul in connection with case No 936/2016 on August 16. However, the police have rearrested him on August 17 in a fresh case, ostensibly to prevent his release from jail on bail.

The police have arrested Rakesh Paul and an employee of the commission Musharraf Hussain, who was also a close aid of Rakesh Paul in connection with case No 159/2017 registered with Bhangagarh police station under sections 120(b) (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating) and 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) of the IPC and Sections 13(1)(a)(d)(iii) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
