GUWAHATI, Sep 13 : Assam police are likely to arrest 22 more government officials in connection with the cash-for-job scam in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), sources informed here Thursday.
It is learnt that 22 more Assam Civil Service (ACS), Assam Police Service (APS) and other allied services officials will be summoned for interrogation in connection with the scam on the basis of the report of the forensic laboratory on their answer scripts.
“The investigating team led by additional superintend of police Surjit Singh Paneswar has prepared another list of officials who had manipulated their answer scripts to get appointment in the coveted posts,” sources said.
However, apprehending arrest, some of the officials have moved the Gauhati High Court for interim bail, they said.
Police have so far arrested 56 government officers, including Pallavi Sharma, daughter of BJP MP RP Sharma, Rajarshi Sen Deka, son of former minister Nilamoni Sen Deka in connection with the scam.
On July 23, the police arrested an officer of Assam Police Service (APS) identified as Kavita Das, who was serving as a deputy superintendent of police (SP) in 19th IRBn in connection with the scam.
On July 18, the police arrested 13 ACS officer, 3 APS officers and one district transport officer (DTO), a tax superintendent and a tax inspector for their involvement in the scam.
The arrested officers are: Suranjita Hazarika (DTO), Utpal Bhuyan (ACS), Barnali Das (ACS), Susovan Das (ACS), Dhruvojyoti Chakraborty (ACS), Manzoor Ilahi Laskar (ACS), Moon Mazoomdar (ACS), Mustafa Ahmed Borbhuyan (ACS), Saibur Rahman Borbhuyan (ACS), Monika Teronpi (ACS), Ganesh Chandra Das (ACS), Srabanti Sen Gupta (ACS), Deepsikha Phukan (ACS), Leena Krishna Kakati (ACS), Gulshan Daolagpu (APS), Pallavi Sharma (APS), Bhargav Phukan (APS), Rituraj Neog (Tax Superintendent ) and Nipon Kumar Pathak (Tax Inspector).
