DIPHU, Nov 1: While reiterating its demand for creation of an Autonomous State for Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao, Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) Friday said the Centre should implement the things written in the Constitution of India other than doing the things out of the purview of the Constitution.
“There is no constitutional provision for creation of separate Union Territory for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, but the Centre has done it. The government has also completed the process of negotiation with NSCN (I-M) though formal written agreement is yet to be signed. However, the demand for creation of an Autonomous State under Article 244 (A) of the Constitution of India has been ignored by the government for the past decades”, ASDC president and former chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Jotson Bey said addressing a press conference here on Friday.
“The NSCN (I-M) has taken to armed struggle and the government is taking due importance to solve their problem. It means the government is giving importance to those parties taking up arms. Karbis have not raised an armed struggle and government is not paying heed to us”, Bey said.
“Like Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao, Nagaland was earlier part of backward tract of 1919, but has been given political promotion to its present status, but the government has been denying political rights of the three hill districts despite having a constitutional provision for it”, he said.
