41 fresh positive cases from Kamrup Metro
GUWAHATI/ NAGAON/ BOKAKHAT, May 27: Assam has registered 60 more COVID-19 positive cases, including 41 fresh cases from Kamrup Metro districts, taking the state’s total to 774.
Confirming it, health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet on Wednesday evening said the infected patients are from Kamrup Metro, Hojai, Morigaon, Darrang, and Kamrup Rural districts.
“Alert ~ 60 new cases of #COVID19+ reported. 41 Kamrup Metro, 9 Hojai, 5 Morigaon, 4 Darrang, 1 Kamrup,” Sarma said in a tweet at around 6.30 pm.
Of 10 fresh reported during the day, 9 are from Charaideo, while one case has been reported from Sivasagar district.
In the morning, 18 new cases, including first air carrier, a resident of Kamrup Metro, who travelled from Ahmedabad to Guwahati, have been reported. Of them 14 cases are from Golaghat, 2 from Karbi Anglong, 1 from Lakhimpur district.
Three more cases have been reported from Nagaon and one from Dhemaji district on Wednesday morning.
The state’s figure of COVID-19 positive cases was 666 till 10.30 pm on Tuesday.
However, 16 more cases were reported late night taking the total number of 682 till the midnight of Tuesday.
Of the fresh cases reported late night, 6 from Hojai, 6 from Golaghat, 2 from Darrang, 1 from Kamrup Metro, 1 case has been reported from Kamrup district.
Three fresh cases reported from Nagaon district have been identified as Alias Uddin (28), Raful Amin (22) of Sunsiri village and Aizazul Haque (19) of Dhing Mohkhuti under Dhing police station.
31 returnees test COVID positive at Bokakhat.
Meanwhile, 31 people, who had returned from Chennai and have been under quarantine at a boys’ hostel of JDSG College in Bokakhat, tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.
A total of 54 people have been under quarantine in the hostel after they returned from Chennai by Chennai Express on May 20. Their swab samples have been sent for test on the same day.
All the positive patients have been shifted to Kushal Konwar Civil hospital in Golaghat.
Meanwhile, Bonti Saikia the wife of Ajit Saikia, who died in Delhi was also tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time. On March 28, Bonti Saikia, Ajit Saikia and Konkonjyoti Bora had tested positive and have been shifted in Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital. But due to his poor health conditions, Ajit Saikia was shifted to Loknayak Joyprakash Hospital where he died on May 7.
But his family members came to know about his death on May 16 only. Both Bonti Saikia and Konkonjyoti Bora tested negative for COVID-19 on May 11 and they reached Assam on May 22.
However, Bonti Saikia who has been under quarantine in Prashanti Lodge at Kohora, tested positive for COVID-19 again for the second time after the results of her swab test came out on Wednesday. As per information available, no one before her tested positive for COVID-19 twice.
Experts say once a person is declared COVID-19 free, she or he might not be infected again with the novel coronavirus and tests positive. They claimed that the virus has now become stronger and is out in a new strain.
