DIPHU, Aug 16: “Autonomous state is the constitutional right of the people of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao. I will fight for the cause of Autonomous State. But at the same time we have to work for development of the rural areas,” Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) chief executive member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang said while unfurling the national tricolour on the occasion of 72nd Independence Day at Diphu Government Boys Higher Secondary School playground on Wednesday.
“Team Karbi Anglong comprising of all EMs, MACs and government officials will be visiting interior places of Karbi Anglong, where villages are yet to be electrified and with no road communication facility or good school buildings and health facility. The tour will start from August 17,” Ronghang said.
Ronghang elaborated on the Centrally-sponsored schemes and said that under the present government KAAC is implementing welfare schemes with equal opportunity to all.
Under RTE, free and compulsory education to children, the government is providing free textbooks to students. Under Chief Minister Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana, the agriculture department has provided 146 tractors to farmers in Karbi Anglong and 255 farmers in West Karbi Anglong at subsidised rate.
He said Hills Medical College in Diphu will function by this year. Science stream will be in Rangsina College, Donkamukam in West Karbi Anglong. A 200-bedded hospital at Hamren and 100-bedded hospital in Bokajan will come up. One B.Ed college and a polytechnic will be set-up in West Karbi Anglong and the government will establishe Law College in Diphu, he said.
Senior journalist Nagen Bora received journalist pension, Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) president Chandra Sing Kro bagged the artist award, Rupsing Teron received the literary pension, Kangbura Timung received sports pension and retired national footballer Nani Gopal Dey and national volleyball referee Sudhangsu Ranjan Dey got one time sports financial assistance.
Assam Hills Small Industries Development Corporation (AHSIDC) managing director Dhansing Lekthe was also felicitated by district administration on the occasion.
The programme was attended by KAAC chairman Longki Timung, deputy chairman Ritesh Enghee, and executive members (EMs).
In Hamren, West Karbi Anglong deputy commissioner Debajyoti Hazarika hoisted the national flag at Rongbong Ronghang field. The occasion was attended by SP Mrinal Talukder, Karbi traditional king Ramsing Ronghang and his courtiers, Baithalangso MLA Dr. Mansing Rongpi, EM Rupsing Teron and senior government officials.
In Bokajan SDO (Civil) Dilip Terang unfurled the tricolour. SDO Terang and officials visited Bokajan CHC and distributed fruits among the patients.
