DONKAMUKAM, April 12:Reiterating that the Autonomous State would be the major poll plank for the BJP in the upcoming poll, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) chief executive member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang on Friday said that Horensing Bey will lay his first speech in the Lok Sabha on autonomous state if voted to power.
“The demand for an Autonomous State under Article 244(a) of the Constitution of India will be our major poll plank. If voted to power, Horensing Bey will lay his first speech in the Parliament on Autonomous State,” Ronghang said addressing an election rally at Birsingki near Umswai in West Karbi Anglong on Friday.
“Only BJP can fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the people of hill areas of Assam. The autonomous State is a long standing demand of the people of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao. Many people have had to sacrifice their lives, many sustained injuries and many have had to lose their career in this movement. The political opportunists got elected to the power several times but did nothing for the people,” Ronghang added.
“But the BJP-led government is planning to provide help to the families who have to bear the brunt of the situation,” he said.
In the meeting, BJP candidate Horensing Bey targeted the opposition parties and said that they have targeted him personally for his involvement in the United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS). “More they attack the more people will support me day by day,” he reiterated.
Altogether 447 members led by Thomas Amsong and Khasi leader Robert Kharsati from Chinthong and Amri MAC Constituencies joined BJP in the meeting. MLA Dr Mansing Rongpi, EM Prodip Rongpi, MAC DU Maslai, West Karbi Anglong BJP president Arun Terang, BJP Minority Morcha vice president Elwin Teron were also present in the meeting.
