DIPHU, Aug 14: Normal life was disrupted in Karbi Anglong on Monday following a rumour of bandh by extremist organisation ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.
Notably, one S Terang claiming to be publicity secretary of anti-talk faction of Karbi Peoples Liberation Tigers (KPLT) posted in social media calling for a bandh in Karbi Anglong from August 13 evening to August 15 evening opposing Independence Day celebrations.
An FIR has been lodged with Diphu Police Station in this connection. Even as Sunday was normal, the bandh was observed from the morning hours. All schools, colleges and other educational institutes, government and private offices, banks and financial institutions remained closed for the day. The vehicles were off the road.
However, the functioning of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) secretariat was normal.
All the shops of Diphu market downed their shutters for the day.
Karbi Anglong SP Dr. GV Siva Prasad said the people should come out to oppose such bandhs.
“The police force is being active in controlling the law and order situation and if the public do not come forward to support it then the police can do pretty little,” he said.
