Banned drugs worth Rs 2 crore seized in Manipur

IMPHAL, Sept 15 (Newmai): Contraband drugs worth about Rs 2 crore have been seized by the Assam Rifles in Manipur, according to the office of the Inspector General of Assam Rifles, South Sector (IGAR-S). It also said that a man transporting the banned goods has also been apprehended by the Assam Rifles.

According to the IGAR-S, the Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) seized 40,000 number of WY tablets from one L D Shokhokhai, 36 years of Moreh Part-1, Tengnoupal district, Manipur. The Assam Rifles said that the goods were found carrying in the dash board and gear box of his vehicle by the smuggler on Saturday.

The Assam Rifles said that, at around 12 pm, based on specific inputs received from its reliable sources of DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence), Imphal regarding smuggling of contraband drugs, a silver coloured Wagon R car travelling from Moreh to Pallel was stopped at PVCP, Khudengthabi in Tengnoupal district for checking. On thorough checking of baggage and vehicle, WY tablets were found inside the dash board and gear box of the vehicle, the Assam Rifles said. Approximate cost of the contraband drug is Rs 2 crore, the Assam Rifles further said The apprehendee L D Shokhokhai, 36 years of Moreh Part-1, Tengnoupal district along with recovered item was handed over to Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Imphal, the Assam Rifles claimed.

In another incident, the Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) apprehended one gold smuggler carrying 8 gold biscuits weighing 1.33 kg which are worth approximately Rs 39.9 lakh at PVCP, Khudengthabi in Tengnoupal district today.

The Assam Rifles said that, at around 3 pm, based on specific inputs received from reliable sources of DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence), Imphal regarding smuggling of gold of foreign origin, a white coloured bus travelling from Moreh to Imphal was stopped at PVCP, Khudengthabi for checking. On thorough checking of baggage and bus, gold of foreign origin was found inside both slippers of one of the passengers of the bus, the Assam Rifles said. During interrogation, the apprehended person revealed that he was handed over the gold by an unknown person in Moreh and was told that someone would come and collect at Imphal. He was promised a sum of Rs 8,000 for the delivery. MdMuhammuddin, 65 years of LilongHaoreibi, Thoubal district was apprehended smuggling the gold, the Assam Rifles also stated. The recovered gold biscuits along with apprehended person was handed over to DRI, Imphal, the Assam Rifles added.
