GUWAHATI, June 19:In a shocking incident ahead of the Ambubachi Mela slated from Saturday, a beheaded body of a woman was found near the Kamakhya Temple on Wednesday evening.
The body was found near the Banadurga Mandir located near the Kamakhya Temple at the Nilachal hill.
Some items used for performing puja have also been recovered near the body. The incident has also raised question about the security arrangements of the temple ahead of the Ambubachi Mela.
The head of the body is still missing. The police have reasons to believe that the woman was sacrificed before the idol.
“Someone has committed the crime due to superstition,” said a senior police official.
“Who has committed this crime, he conducted it willingly. He has committed this crime due to superstition, if it has happened. We have to be seen it scientifically. We have started investigation,” the official said.
The four-day long Ambubachi Mela will be started from June 22 at Kamakhya temple.
