Bishnu Rabha divas observed across Assam

TEZPUR/ KOKRAJHAR/ NAMRUP, June 20: Along with rest of the state, the cultural home town of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha observed the 49th death anniversary of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha here in Tezpur at the samadhisthol by the Sonitpur district All Assam Student Union along with the committee.

Tezpur  Sahitya Sabha, Trimurty Udyan  (a park dedicated to Jyoti Prasad, Bishnu Prasad Rabha and Phani Sarma) in the heart of  Tezpur, the samadhisthol management committee, AJYCP, Jyotibharati (a museum  dedicated to Jyoti Prasad Agarwala and the ancestral home of Agarwala ) AASU central Asstt Secretary Duldul Borkakoti observed  various programmes by paying tributes to Rabha on Wednesday.

Tezpur Sahitya Sabha president of the literary body Hemanta Baruah began the commemoration session by lighting a lamp and paid floral tributes near the bust of the cultural icon. Addressing the gathering, he spoke about the unmatched contribution of Rabha.

Speaking on the occasion, the literary body secretary Pankaj Baruah said that the state government need to take steps to preserve Rabha’s creations at Kolibari home which may perish due to lack of preservation.

District AASU observed three days long programme here at District Library from June 18.

District Secretary of AASU Nitul Bora said that Rabha who was continue a freedom fighter, revolutionary, dancer, actor, singer, poet, music composer, film maker, politician also was a complete institution and we never forget it.

“We the people of Assam need to do more and urged to the government to establish a museum to preserve his historic creation which is going to be destroyed today,” he added.


Meanwhile, Kokrajhar Sakha Sahitya Sabha organised Rabha Divas to commemorate the 49th death anniversary of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha at Sahitya Sabha Bhawan in Kokrajhar on Wednesday.

Writer Mahat Chandra Basumatary hoisted sahitya sabha flag while social activist Gambhir Nath offered floral tribute to Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha. A sapling plantation programme was also carried out on the occasion to mark the divas.

Recalling the contribution of Kalaguru Rabha towards social uplift and integration in the state of Assam, Basumatary said his (Rabha) contribution was endless for the society. Rabha had contributed a lot towards uplift of Rabha community as well down trodden communities in the state.

Kokrajhar district administration in association with Cultural Centre, Kokrajhar observed the Rabha Divos at Pragati Bhawan in Kokrajhar with colourful programme scheduled.

Bishnu Rabha was also remembered at Namrup Sahitya Sabha auditorium in Namrup coinciding the ongoing celebration of year long golden jubilee.

Hoisting the Sahitya Sabha flag during the programme, Namrup Sahitya Sabha president Monikanta Chetia said, “Our young generation are very unknown with the creations of Kalaguru (Master of Arts) Bishnu Prasad Rabha and I urge every parents from this platform to give them a vast knowledge about Kalaguru.”
