DIPHU, March 23: “BJP will not detect and deport illegal Bangladeshis, but they are trying to protect them in India through the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill,” sitting MP and congress candidate for No 3 Autonomous Districts constituency Birensingh Engti said here on Friday.
“The Bill created confusion and mistrust among various indigenous communities living peacefully in different parts of the state,” Engti said addressing a party workers meet at the conference hall of Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (KADCC) here.
“BJP is liar. They did not fulfill the promises that they had made before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. I urge all party workers to stand with the party to defeat the BJP in the elections,” Engti said.
In his address, West Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (WKADCC) president Sarthe Kramsa targeted BJP candidate Horensing Bey and said, “Horensing Bey is a new face and very few people know him. Also when he was Chairman of KAAC, he has failed to maintain his protocol and always see him in public meetings. Such irresponsible leader cannot be voted to the power.”
“A crack has already developed in BJP camp. MLA Joyram Engleng and senior BJP leader Longki Phangcho have applied for ticket, but their applications were ignored and ticket was given to CEM’s favourite person Horensing Bey,” Kramsa claimed.
“There are several BJP leaders as well as elected representatives who are involved in large scale corruption. Until power with them they will be safe, but on the day they lose the power they will have to go to jail,” he said.
Former CEM of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHJAC) and former MLA Samarjit Haflongbar, who is from National People’s Party (NPP), has joined Congress on Friday. Ratul Teron from AGP and several other leaders joined the Congress.
Engti was given warm welcome at Nelie, Parokhowa and several other places.
He was also welcomed at Dokmoka, Phuloni, Patradisa, Disobai and Manja. A welcome gate was also set up in front of the KADCC office.
