BJP wins Howraghat LAMPS poll

HOWRAGHAT, May 16: The BJP won all the 15 seats in the election to Howraghat Lamps in Karbi Anglong the results of which were declared here on Wednesday. The election was held on May 15. The counting of votes was conducted on the day of voting itself and completed at 2 pm on Wednesday.

In the election, the Congress got divided into two camps. One led by Khaja Terang who allegedly backed by KADCC president and MP Biren Singh Engti and another camp led by Deuri Lekthe allegedly backed by former minister Kharsing Engti. Each Congress camp fielded 15 candidates and all of them have lost the battle.

The winning BJP candidates are: Dhaniram Kro, Mala Teronpi, Mrinali Jahorisa, Amritlal Satnami, Amar Haflongbar, Bikram Tokbi, Biswa Boro, Deepak Das, Kishor Ch. Kemprai, Prodip Nath, Pabitra Handique, Rangsina Tokbi, Ramesh Tokbi, Sajal Nath and Santalal Gaur.

Altogether 49 candidates have filed nominations for the election and later three of them withdrew their papers.

The next elections two Lamps of Kangki Basti and Ok Kereng under Howraghat constituency will be held on June 3.
