DIPHU, March 4: The 40th foundation day of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), Karbi Anglong was celebrated at Lorchoti Seva Dham here on Sunday. The organisation has launched a membership drive on the occasion.
The open meeting was presided over by Assam Pradesh BKS and Karbi Anglong BKS president Kurusar Timung. In his address, Timung stressed on the need of strengthening BKS among farmers in Karbi Anglong.
He said the BKS, 20,000 members will be enrolled from Karbi Anglong. The organisation has set a target of 1 lakh membership in the state this year. 206 Village Committee of BKS have been formed, he said.
In the meeting, the BKS also urged the government for timely implementation of agriculture and other allied schemes meant for the welfare of farmers. More than 50 BKS workers participated in the celebration, Karbi Anglong BKS secretary Ajit Bora and other leaders of BKS were present.
