BONGAIGAON, Sept 10:The Public Grievances Redressal (PGR) Day, named as the ‘Raijor Chora’ conducted by the Bongaigaon district administration of Assam beginning on Tuesday received a positive response. 24 numbers of complaints were received by the administration.
The complaints received were around issues like water supply, roads, partition of land, construction of drains, non-functioning of Street Lights, MGNREGA, PMAY works among others. Members of the public who gathered at Deputy Commissioner’s Office to register their complaints exuded optimism over the new initiative taken by the district administration to listen to their grievances every 2ndand 4thTuesday and believed it would result in speedier disposal of cases.
Upananda Sharma, journalist said, “Raijor Chora provides an opportunity to the officials to be more in touch with the common man, and more effectively dealing with public grievances than ever before. The advantage of having interactions with the public is that the administration is able to analyse the nature of complaints received over time, which helps in making effective policy decisions.
Moreover, this exercise will also be an indirect review of the functioning of different departments, as the Deputy Commissioner will remain aware about the performances of different departments in redressing the grievances of the people.”
One of the complainants Mithun Rai from Bhakarivita said, “Today’s Raijor Chora session has been most helpful as it allowed him to put forward his complaints and requests for quick resolution”. Assistant Commissioner, Partha Pratim Khanikar, who is manning the Public Grievance Cell in Deputy Commissioner’s establishment, said, “The applicants can now discuss their grievances face-to-face with the Deputy Commissioner and other officials. We have formulated a mechanism where the Cell will do the necessary followup with various Department Heads regarding the forwarded complaints and ensure their redressal.”
District Development Commissioner cum in-charge of the PG Cell, Chandra Devi, Nadira Jesmin, CEO, Bongaigaon Zilla Parishad, Megh Nidhi Dahal, IAS Additional Deputy Commissioner and i/c SDO, Abhayapuri Sub Division, Circle Officers of Bongaigaon, Dangtol, Srijangram and Boitamari, Assistant Commissioners and district heads and officials of different departments were present on the occasion.
