Cabinet okays 35 official holidays, 31 restricted holidays for 2020
GUWAHATI, Nov 19: Assam Cabinet on Tuesday approved Arundhati scheme to gift 1-tola gold to brides from all communities. The gold will be gifted to brides in whose communities it is customary to provide gold at the time of wedding.
The meeting of the state cabinet with chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal approved the scheme on Tuesday, finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters here after the cabinet meeting.
The much-touted Arundhati scheme is one of the flagship programme announced in the state budget for 2019-20.
While presenting the state budget for 2019-20 on February 7, finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had announced the Arundhati scheme along with 19 other flagship programme for the weaker section of the society.
The state government has also earmarked Rs 3000 crore for implementation of the scheme, Sarma said.
Among other decisions, the state cabinet has approved 35 official holidays and 31 restricted holidays for 2020 calendar year. The cabinet made availability of sanitary pad mandatory for women workers for all industries and factories across the state.
The cabinet also approved Finance Autonomy to the Veterinary Farmers Policy. The cabinet approved Pig Breeding Policy, Goatery Farming Policy and Bamboo and Cane Policy in Tuesday’s meeting.
The cabinet decided for development of tissue culture at rain forest research institute at Jorhat. It also took the decision for bamboo production through tissue culture at krishak Vigya Kendra and Forest Nursery.
