KOKRAJHAR, Aug 17: Various social and student organisations of Bodoland Territorial Administrative Districts (BTAD) mourned the death of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and organised various programmes to pay homage to the departed leader.
It was Vajpayee who initiated the creation of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) following a tripartite agreement with the erstwhile militant group Bodoland Liberation tiger (BLT) in February 2003.
The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) expressing deep sorrow over the demise of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, offered homage to the people’s leader at a condolence programme organised in front of Pragati Bhawan in Kokrajhar town on Friday.
Hundreds of activists, citizens participated at the condolence programme organised to offer respect and floral tribute to great former Prime Minister Vajpayee. Former Rajya Sabha MP and UPPL president, UG Brahma, ABSU general secretary Lawrence, social activist Raju Barman attended and offered floral tribute to departed leader.
Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) observed one minute silence in respect of the great leader at BPF office in Kokrajhar.
BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary, BTC executive members Doneswar Goyary, Rajib Brahma, ex executive member Derhasat Basumatary, leaders of youth, women, BSU and workers of the party participated and offered floral tribute to the departed soul.
BTC secretariat officers, staff and employees have also organised condolence programmes to express grief and sorrow over Vajpayee’s death at BTC secretariat complex at Bodofa Nwgwr in Kokrajhar.
BTC Principal Secretary Biren Chandra Phukan, several senior officials from BTC administration were prominent attendees on the condolence occasion.
Former member of Rajya Sabha, Urkao Gwra Brahma who is also president of United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) while mourning the demise of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee said, “My deep sense of condolence to departed noble soul of Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji and it is a great loss for all of us.”
President of All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), Promod Boro while offering deep condolences to the departed soul said Vajpayee was a great and dynamic leader and his demise is a great loss for the whole nation.
