GUWAHATI, April 9: In a major vaccination drive against Covid-19, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration has decided to vaccinate all the bus drivers, conductors, handymen against the deadly virus.
In an emergency meeting held under the supervision of Kamrup (Metro) deputy commissioner Biswajit Pegu, the district administration has decided to conduct at least 10,000 tests in the city daily, ahead of the Rongali Bihu celebration.
Pegu also informed that passengers coming from states like West Bengal, Delhi, Maharashtra and Karnataka will have to strictly undergo Covid-19 tests at the airports and railway stations in Assam.
Notably, in order to combat the ‘second wave’ of Covid-19 in the state, the state health department is targeting at least 1 lakh tests per day from now on.
The DC has also confirmed that strong measures will be taken to figure out the flash flood situation in the city of Guwahati.
The meeting was attended by development commissioner Nibedan Das Patowary, Zila Parishad chief executive officer (CEO) Dorothy Susang, additional deputy commissioner Sarmistha Bora and Bipul Kumar Das, officials of Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Airport Authority of India (AAI), Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) and National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF).
Meanwhile, Kamrup (Metro) district administration has decided to conduct Covid-19 testing programmes in various places of the city from Saturday.
The drive will be conducted in all offices, commercial establishments and places of worship on April 10, 11, and 12, an official release here said.
