DONKAMUKAM, Oct 12: Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) on Saturday demanded cancellation of the list of selected candidates for grade III posts in judicial department which was published on September 27.
It is alleged that all the posts reserved for Schedule Tribe (Hills) candidates were filled up by unreserved candidates in the list.
“Of the 35 vacant posts, seven were reserved for ST (H) candidates. But these reserved posts are likely to be filled up by unreserved candidates due to absence of ST(H) candidates,” KSA president Samson Teron told reporters here.
“According to the Assam Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Reservation of Vacancies in Services and Posts) Act, 2012, the appointing authority should advertise three times by obtaining prior concurrence from tribal affairs department for the reserved posts if there is no availability of reserved candidates,” Teron said.
Teron also demanded the Election Commission of India (ECI) for extension of date for voter’s ID verification for the voters of the hill areas.
“I demand for extension of date for voter’s ID verification considering the poor net connectivity in hill areas. Moreover, some supporting documents like driving license, PAN card are also not available with the rural voters,” he said.
As per notification, the last date for verification of voter’s ID is October 15.
The student body also opposed the move of the Union government for introduction of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the winter session of Parliament and said that it is not acceptable to the tribal people of the state.
“If the bill is passed, it will be a big threat to the identity and culture of the tribal communities of the country,” Teron said.
