PASIGHAT, June 28: The All East Siang district Students Union (AESDSU) and its allied organizations with the help of community organizations today called 12-hour East Siang district bandh, which was total and passed off peacefully.
Several hundred student union members of Adi community organizations blocked the national Highway-15 at Ruksin, Pasighat and Mebo daring incessant rain for the day.
Financial banks, petrol pumps, educational institutions besides shops and other business establishments are remaining closed while movement of vehicle is off along National Highway-15 and other rural roads during bandh hours. Attendance in government offices was thin for the day.
The bandh call was in protest against the State government’s alleged failure to deliver justice in Ojing Taying murder case, which is presently under SIT investigation. The protesters have demanded the State home department to hand over the case to Central Bureau of Investigation for speedy investigation as the case has no headway even after one year has passed from the date of incident.
The AESDSU and its allies have been demanding the State government to hand over the case to CBI to unearth the facts behind the murder. They alleged that the investigating agency is not conducting proper inquiry into the case.
“Observing repeated failure of the investigating agencies, we have lost confidence over state police. We have no alternative other than demanding CBI investigation to ensure justice to the victim family”, said the AESDSU functionaries.
The protesters say that it was their first phase agitation and they would resort more rigorous movement against the authority, if their demand of CBI inquiry into Ojing Taying murder case is unheard.
